Thank you for visiting the online home of The Indiana Rail Road Company! I encourage you to look around and learn more about our company and the rail-based transportation services we provide.
The Indiana Rail Road (INRD) is a 500-mile regional railroad system headquartered in Indianapolis and operating in central and southern Indiana, and central Illinois. With access to the important Chicago and Louisville gateways, and connections to the North American rail network, we help our customers reach global markets.
Tom Hoback started the INRD in 1986 with 110 miles of railroad and 16 employees. Since the beginning, the company has been guided by four principles:
1.) We earn our customers’ trust by doing what we say we’re going to do.
2.) We invest ahead of the growth curve, envisioning tomorrow’s opportunities.
3.) We empower our people with a sense of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.
4.) We do all this with safety top of mind.
As a result, Indiana Rail Road has grown into a 500-mile system, with 175 dedicated professionals moving the equivalent of 800,000 truckloads of freight annually. We are trusted to move a broad range of commodities including coal for electricity generation, agricultural products, petrochemicals, limestone, plastics, sweeteners and appliances.
In 2013, we launched trans-Pacific intermodal service with Canadian National. Today, thousands of containers pass through our Indianapolis terminal, connecting Indiana businesses to Asian markets.
As Indiana Rail Road approaches its 30th anniversary, the future is bright. Rail transportation solutions create clear economic value for our customers and environmental benefits for us all. We will grow in partnership with our existing customers, and work to expand our customer base through industrial development and new rail-based services. The four principles will continue to guide us as we work relentlessly to grow our business.
Finally, we will continue to work collaboratively to promote public safety and enrich the communities in which we operate. For example, the Indiana Rail Road Santa Train remains a Christmas tradition in southern Indiana and Illinois.
